Our learning this week.
This week in Maths we have been learning to recognise and write the number 10 – it’s a 2 digit number and the 1 always has to come first! In our wee groups we have focusing on counting the correct amount up to 10 using 1:1 correspondence, learning about what ‘before’, ‘after’ and ‘in between’ means as well as creating our own number lines. Some of the boys (Prayan, Joel and Matei) even worked on numbers before and after all the way up to 20!!
We have learned two new letter sounds, d and e. We have been learning to recognise and write them. To decorate our classroom, and practice our fine motor skills we created dinosaurs out of d and cheeky e’s popping out of eggs. Mia and Laura were stars at this task, completing all steps with very little support. We are also still learning to blend three letters together to make a word – Lennox is very good at hearing the blends 🙂
On Thursday, we had our first Music lesson. Sadly Mrs Constable isn’t in school at the moment but I think she will be so pleased to hear we are able to find, hear and copy a beat. After all of our listening and copying work we had a wee freestyle improvised dance and the photos show just how fantastic movers we are!
In our play, we’ve really enjoyed measuring ourselves using the blocks. We have shown great team work by working together to create very high or long towers, and fantastic resilience skills especially when the towers are too tall and topple over, meaning we have to start building all over again. Have a look to see Sabrina who is lots taller than the blocks tower she made.
Also, how quickly has this first term gone!? I just wanted to say how proud I am about how well you settled into the routine of school and Primary 1 how happy I am with all of the progress in your learning – I hope you have a lovely, well deserved holiday. 🙂
